St. Cloud, Minn – Coming off an exciting win Saturday against Upper Iowa University, the St. Cloud State Huskies looked to keep momentum on their side heading into Tuesday night’s matchup with Minnesota State University, Mankato. But thanks to a superior effort from the Mavericks Amanda Beekman, the Huskies were stopped in their tracks.
In front of a rocking crowd of 357, the Mavericks swept the Huskies in three consecutive sets of 25-19, 25-14 and 25-14 to improve their record to 13-2, 3-0 in the NSIC. With the loss, SCSU dropped to 5-11 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
Leading the Huskies on the attack was sophomore middle hitter Erica Beacom (Elkhorn, Neb.) with eight kills on 12 total attacks, good for a match best 66%. Three St. Cloud State players finished in double figures in digs, as first year libero Sarah Madden (Van Meter, Iowa) led SCSU with 11. Both sophomore Chelsea Nagle (Preston, Minn.) and junior Kiersten Mormann (Omaha, Neb.) finished with 10 digs for the Huskies.
Next up for St. Cloud State is a trip north to take on conference foes MSU Moorhead and Minnesota Crookston. The Huskies will play the Dragons in Moorhead on Friday, Sep. 25, before traveling to take on the Golden Eagles Saturday, Sep. 26. Friday’s match will mark the first of a four-game road swing for SCSU.
