College of Science and Engineering encourages all of its current and prospective students to investigate St. Cloud State University’s Center for International Studies. SCSU is among the top 20 U.S. universities in the number of international students attending classes on campus. In addition, approximately 400 SCSU students annually participate in education-abroad programs.
Specific to engineering students is the exchange program with the Fachhochschule, an engineering school in Ingolstadt, Germany. In 2006 and 2008, a College of Science and Engineering professor from either Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering or Electrical and Computer Engineering accompanied a group of SCSU student engineers to the Fachhochschule, where they continued to study and research engineering. Check with the Center for International Studies for information on the next opportunity to study at the Fachhochscule.
Shanghai University of Engineering Science
In spring 2008, Professor Ben Baliga, chair of the Mechanical and Manufacturing Department, and Professor Teng (Ted) Gang XU from the Shanghai University of Engineering Science in China taught engineering classes at each other’s campuses. This successful faculty exchange is expected to progress to an education-abroad exchange program in the near future.
Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University
In spring 2008, nine seniors in the Department of Nursing Science undertook their clinical training through Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Accompanied by Professor Joan Wilcox, the nurses rotated through the intensive care, labor and delivery and oncology units at the Dora Nginza and Provincial Hospitals, and also worked in rural clinics. Later in the term, a delegation from NMMU, including the dean of science, the dean of engineering and the director of international education visited here to explore further opportunities.
Universidad de Concepcion
In January 2008, Dean David DeGroote, along with faculty from Biological Sciences; Electrical and Computer Engineering; Nursing Science; Physics, Astronomy and Engineering Science; and Statistics traveled to Chile to visit with faculty and administration at the Universidad de Concepcion. Check back to this page for updates on possible exchange programs.
