The Minnesota Department of Health recommends vaccinating all students against regular, seasonal influenza. That step is especially critical for persons at high risk of influenza-related complications. Flu shots for students: Student Health Services no longer has seasonal flu vaccine available. Check with local clinics or pharmacies for availability. A separate vaccination will be needed for H1N1 influenza. H1N1 vaccine is expected to be available by November 2009. Persons at higher risk for H1N1 flu complications should consider getting the H1N1 vaccine. People at higher risk include pregnant women and people with chronic medical conditions such as asthma or other chronic pulmonary disease; cancer; heart disease; diabetes; weakened immune system; or kidney, liver, blood, or neurological disorders.
