Master of Social Work at SCSU
Social Work graduate students learn to think critically, and work effectively and collaboratively in the professional world of social services. This program will prepares candidates to promote economic, political and social justice in a diverse and global society as they work as an advanced generalist in a variety of social service settings.
This program uses an anti-oppression lens with a focus on race, class and gender, to inform both its educational environment and educational programs.
Advanced Standings versus Foundations: The Social Work: Advanced Standing program is designed for students who already have an undergraduate degree in Social Work. Prospective students who do not hold a bachelor’s degree in Social Work will be accepted into the Foundations program, which requires additional introductory coursework in the field.

Application Requirements and Details
The two-year Foundation program is for the applicant with a bachelor degree other than social work and for applicants whose Bachelor's in Social Work (BSW) is older than seven years. The Advanced Standing track is for applicants who have received the BSW degree within the last seven years.
Admission is competitive and selection is based on an evaluation of all factors.
Once the program is full, qualified applicants are placed on a wait list in the event space becomes available. The wait list decision date is March 31.
MSW Supplemental Essay - Required at time of application
As part of the online application process, upload in the writing sample feature an essay that:
- is 3-5 typed double spaced pages (12 point font)
- includes citations for any sources used
- speaks on your career goals consistent with:
- The mission of the Department of Social Work
- The mission of the Master of Social Work program
- The values of the social work profession as articulated in the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics
- describes a social justice issue that is of interest to you and describe the contribution you plan to make toward the resolution of the problem
