From the very beginning of outdoor varsity hockey in 1931 to the undefeated season in 1961-62 to the Herb Brooks era in 1986 and onto NCAA Division I status in 1987, Husky Hockey has been synonymous with the word success. Seven National Tournament appearances, 18 AHCA All-Americans, four Olympians and 22 NHL players have brought enjoyment and recognition to St. Cloud State University and the surrounding community throughout the years.
Husky Hockey will begin a new chapter in 2013 when it joins the newly formed National Collegiate Hockey Conference. St. Cloud State will continue its strong rivalries with many existing WCHA members, including North Dakota, Minnesota-Duluth, Denver, Colorado College, Nebraska-Omaha and add new ones in Miami (Ohio) and Western Michigan in what will arguably be the toughest collegiate hockey conference in the nation. “We are very excited for the challenge and look forward to a new chapter in the history of St. Cloud State hockey,” said Coach Bob Motzko.
