For as long as I can remember the National Hockey Center has been the rallying point for thousands of Husky hockey fans and visitors. St. Cloud State University’s engagement with the new National Collegiate Hockey Conference has increased the excitement for Husky hockey. And now we will build on that momentum with our vision for a new multi-purpose facility, The Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
The hockey arena will continue to be the place where big dreams spark and stellar careers launch, both on the ice and in the imaginations of our young fans. And now, the expanded Herb Brooks National Hockey Center facility will become much more. Seating 8,000 visitors, it will be a cultural and social centerpiece for the region, unparalleled in capacity and convenience.
The expanded Herb Brooks National Hockey Center will be an impressive southern anchor for St. Cloud’s emerging Fifth Avenue Corridor, which will now extend from the new River’s Edge Convention Center downtown past the exciting Fifth Avenue Live development, Coborn Plaza and main St. Cloud State University campus, to the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. This is the most exciting partnership our community has ever experienced and is a tangible symbol of the dawning of a new day in campus and community relations.
I am honored and excited to serve as Chair of the National Hockey and Event Center Campaign. Our goal is to raise at least $12 million in private charitable contributions for the project. The response so far has been gratifying. Donors — both Husky hockey fans and others whose interest lies in the broader vision — have come forward in numbers and with contributions that give me confidence that we can exceed our goal.
Still, we have much work to do. I hope that you will join me in supporting the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. This is an exciting and pivotal time for St. Cloud State and our region. Together, we will redefine the cultural life of our community as well as the future of Husky athletics.
Chair, Herb Brooks NHC Campaign
