Do I need to schedule an audition, or can I come at anytime on audition day?
Please schedule an audition to ensure that we are able to hear you. Auditions slots fill quickly!
What should I expect at this audition?
We want you to find auditioning a very relaxed, pleasant experience. There is no need for you to practice or prepare anything special. These are the things we will ask you to do:
-Echo-clap four beat rhythm patterns
-Echo pitches and pitch patterns
-Sing Row, Row, Row Your Boat with one of us as a round
-Sing any song you want to sing without accompaniment
-A few little exercises to establish your range and part singing ability
-We will ask you why you would like to be in one of the Cantabile choirs
It’s an easy, quick ten minutes that we are sure you will find enjoyable!
If I do prepare a song, what kind of song should I sing?
Remember, you are auditioning for a choir, so we'd love to hear something that shows your best choir voice. We prefer to hear folk songs, rounds, and a known choir song over "pop" songs. If you can't think of a song to sing, Happy Birthday, Twinkle Twinkle, or any similar song will do!
My daughter is a 6th grader. How do I know which choir to audition for?
6th graders are automatically considered for both choirs in their audition. Girls will find out which choir they are placed in from their acceptance letter. Girls are placed in the choir that the directors feel will be the best fit for their voice and skill level.
When Will I Find Out About My Audition?
Audition results are mailed out by Mid June/Early July. Accepted singers meet for a retreat in late August and regular rehearsals begin in early September.

Her Story, Her Song is an annual musical offering in which the Women's Choir, Cantabile Girls' Choir, and music faculty honor the female experience in song, word and action. This musical event has evolved from six years of collaboration and friendship among women faculty members in the Department of Music. It offers rich opportunities for teaching and learning, provides excellent mentoring models, and creates awareness of diverse experiences.
