"Think. Do. Make a difference." These action words are the essence of an Education for Life and have created a buzz around campus and throughout the greater community that says "we get it." The words are the focus of billboards, television ads, print ads and a digital campaign that showcase our commitment and our promise to educate students for a well-rounded life — "to prepare students for life, work and citizenship in the 21st century."
The campaign was created in collaboration with local marketing communications firm HatlingFlint with photos and video content provided by St. Cloud State employees and student workers.
The 30-, 60- and 90-second video profiles put applied learning at the forefront and highlight St. Cloud State's vast programming opportunities, approachable faculty, sustainability efforts, affordability, community engagement, diversity and student successes. The 60- and 90-second versions earned gold ADDY Awards from the Central Minnesota chapter of the American Advertising Federation.
Following the kinetic-type style of the video, the print campaign lets bold "Think. Do. Make a Difference." text grab readers' attention. Supporting text is used to help further tell St. Cloud State's story and is customized depending on the target demographic or publication.
Big and bold, these words get your attention, even at 70 miles per hour. "Think. Do. Make a Difference." billboards can be found along I-94, U.S. Highway 10, Division Street in St. Cloud at the Fifth Avenue intersection, as well as other areas throughout the Central Minnesota community.
Digital advertising allows St. Cloud State to directly target prospective groups and engage with them in ways that other media can't. With placement assistance from HatlingFlint, display ads have appeared on numerous networks including Xfinity, Pandora, SCTimes.com, Kare11.com and Yahoo.com.
The digital campaign also includes advertising opportunities on social media — Facebook and Twitter — and search engine marketing via Google Adwords. Both options allow the University to reach prospective students and specific demographics through direct targeting capabilities.
While digital advertising has helped create a strong brand awareness, its primary purpose is to engage with prospective students and help them begin their journey to studying at St. Cloud State via the landing page at www.stcloudstate.edu/forlife.
