George Ongoro juggled going to St. Cloud State with serving in the U.S. Army as a medic until graduating in spring 2021. He is now focused on serving in the Army while applying to medical school, with the goal of one day being able to serve medically disadvantaged communities.
Ongoro was one of the inaugural recipients of St. Cloud State University's Dr. Carrie Holmes MCAT Grant announced in September 2021.
"The path to medical school is hard, and to be honest, it’s expensive as well. Hearing I was awarded (the Holmes MCAT Grant), I’m just grateful for someone being so caring to support my path to medicine. It just makes it more worth it that, in the future, as I continue my path to medicine, how I’ll be helping others. I will not only be helping patients, but I will also be able to pay it forward to others who are interested in medicine." - George Ongoro ’21
