Board of School Administrators (BOSA)
The Minnesota Board of School Administrators (BOSA) oversees and ensures the quality of school administrator preparation in the state of Minnesota. The Educational Administration & Leadership Specialist program alone does not lead to administrative licensure eligibility. The College of Education and Learning Design has three administrative licensure programs approved by BOSA: Principal K-12, District Superintendent, Special Education Administration.
Minnesota Administrative Licensure Requirements
Currently the state of Minnesota requires that applicants for administrative licensure have at least three years teaching experience or be eligible to apply for alternative licensure.
Administrative licensure requires a Master of Science in Educational Administration & Leadership or a related field, plus 30 semester credits, obtainable through the Post-Master's Graduate Certificates in:
- District Superintendent
- K-12 Principal
- Special Education Administration (also requires Special Education Teaching Licensure)
The St. Cloud State Advantage
- Candidates may pursue the Specialist program concurrently with multiple Post-Master Graduate Certificate programs to complete administrative licensure requirements.
- Candidates may select a formal research study or a portfolio for their culminating project.
- The built-in field experience offers valuable professional experience and may be completed within your current building or district.
- Aligns with the Minnesota Board of School Administrators professional preparation competencies.
- St. Cloud State University has provided teacher education since our founding in 1869, and has prepared school administrators in Minnesota since 1956.
