About TRIO: Student Support Services

Student Support Services (SSS) has helped many students successfully complete their undergraduate degree. SSS is an achievement program awarded to St. Cloud State University, whose overall mission is to "enhance the educational opportunity of eligible students whose aspirations include campus participation, community exploration and the achievement of a post-secondary degree." TRIO Student Support Services has been funded by the U.S. Department of Education since 1968 and now has new offices at SCSU in Centennial Hall 366.

Students who participate in the program come from every academic department and major on campus. We work closely with many programs including the Financial Aid Office, Enrollment Services, Multicultural offices, Student Accessibility Services, ACE, McNair Scholars Programs, Upward Bound, SCSU undergraduate students, Career Center, College Possible and many others.

The SSS Program can provide you with a range of services including:

  • individual tutoring appointments
  • priority enrollment (enroll early for upcoming semesters)
  • personalized academic advising
  • peer mentoring
  • math and science instruction
  • reading and writing instruction
  • financial literacy
  • accessible tutoring rooms
  • academic success workshops
  • graduate school information/guidance
  • personalized staff support
  • and encouragement

 

Our goal is to helped students achieve the following results:

  • All participants achieve an overall GPA of 2.0 or above annually
  • Guide and support particpants to a Bachelor’s Degree within 6yrs
  • Identify and offer services to help students reenroll continously to acheive a streamlined graduation

 

Who are a great candidates for Student Support Services (SSS)?

To be eligible, you only need to meet one of these eligibility requirements at the time you apply . Once your application is reviewed and you are accepted you are eligible to receive services for up to six (6) years.
  • You are a first generation college student (neither parent nor guardian has received a four-year degree).
  • You are income eligible (Most Pell Grant recipients and/or by income tax verification)
  • You have a documented disability.

 

IT’S EASY TO APPLY: JUST, please submit the following:

  • SSS Program Application
  • Income Verification:
    • Federal Income Tax Return or
    • a signed SSS Income Verification form may be completed, signed and submitted.

Students may submit this information by email to kenard.booker@stcloudstate.edu. After I receive all materials, a review will be completed to determine eligibility. If the student is approved for the program, a SSS Advisor will be assigned based on your individual academic needs and goals.
