The annual MLK Community Celebration includes activities over multiple days that offer several ways to get involved and honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This event is an opportunity for the Central Minnesota community to come together, engage in conversation and share time together while honoring Dr. King’s dream.

We invite you to partner with us by donating items needed for individuals experiencing homelessness at any of our events. Additional information is available on the Community Empowerment and Support page.
We commemorate Dr. King's dream of a multiracial nation united in justice, peace, and reconciliation.

2025 Schedule of Events
Breakfast Keynote Speaker: Dr. Evelyn Hill
Dr. Evelyn Hill was elected as Commissioner of the fourth district of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County in November 2023. She has served on the Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education from July of 2009 through January of 2018. During her tenure on the Board of Education, she was the President from July 2014 through July 2018. She values education and believes every child has the right to receive a quality education. She embraces the fact that we are lifetime learners.
Dr. Hill has worked strategically with KCK School District, and other agencies in KCK to decrease the number of homeless kids in the school district. The original number of 1400 homeless kids has decreased by over 50%.
Since the death of George Floyd and other African American civilians in 2020 along with the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Hill has been moved to speak up for the under-served communities in our metropolitan areas around the country.
Dr. Hill has been moved to work toward solution-based strategies with other local citizens and formed the Justice and Equity Coalition.
Dr. Hill enjoys public speaking, group training and facilitating. She has pastored two churches. Dr. Hill is very passionate about empowering women and children through education.
Dr. Hill is also very passionate about the civil rights of all humans. Justice issues must move from talk to action that frees the innocent and oppressed. Justice must meet the requirement of "being just and fair" and values the life of all humans regardless of race, economic status or citizenship.
Dr. Hill has served in many volunteer positions over the years including but not limited to, Heartland 180, Caring For Kids, KCK Chamber of Commerce board of directors, Leadership 2000, Keeler’s Women’s Center, Joyce Williams Center (Domestic Violence Shelter), Wyandotte County United Way, The Unified Government of Wyandotte County, The Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council, the Mayor’s Clergy Roundtable and the Mayors Taskforce for the Unhoused and Neighbors in Need.
Dr. Hill has also authored several books. She is the visionary and co-author of the anthology “Voices of Women Unleashed In Justice”, which is an Amazon Best Seller. She is also the author of “Grace Over Rape”, “Women Under Construction”, “and co author of “Daughters of the Dawn” and “Prioritizing My Battles”, both Amazon Best Sellers.

MLK Day Celebration attendees may also enjoy the Power in Diversity Conference, a cornerstone of leadership development for students and institutions across the region and beyond.
The 2025 conference is held January 30 and February 1 on the campus of St. Cloud State University.
