Artist Statement

In my experiences, art is a way of healing and becoming a more mindful individual. Originally, I started creating artwork in order to get away and distract myself from my ongoing health issues but over the years, it has become more than that. It has become both a passion and an activity which allows me to heal and be myself. Creating art is a significant part of me because it takes our adversities and transforms them into meaningful works despite encompassing difficult or painful events. My art is reflective of my experiences and emotions; it is used to communicate what words cannot. I draw inspiration from my experiences as well as scenes I find emotionally meaningful or especially beautiful. By composing art, I can effectively capture and show what is important to me, whether it be a feeling or a place I have traveled. In the case of my piece titled “Apathy”, my intention was to illustrate the specific emotions tied to how an individual can feel strangled and constrained when bad things continue to occur in their lives. I wanted to demonstrate a sense of helplessness and loss of self. On the contrary, the work entitled “Ubiquitous” was meant to encompass the beauty of the trees and mountains from Colorado and therefore tells a different story.
