Transfer Information

Become a Husky!

Students wishing to transfer from another institution into the Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, or Statistics can find transfer information on the College of Science and Engineering website, which includes transfer guides for several of MinnState's two-year institutions.

Q. Can I finish my bachelor's degree in two years?
A. Yes, it is possible to complete your bachelor's degree in two years, but this largely depends on your preparation in mathematics and experience in programming. You must have a strong foundation in these areas to achieve this accelerated timeline. Specifically, suppose you have completed a semester of calculus, discrete structures/discrete math, computer architecture (including basic digital circuit design, CPU architecture, and assembly language programming), and a rigorous course in data structures. In that case, you are well-prepared to pursue this path.

However, it's important to note that students should not complete their general education program first and then expect to finish the degree in two years. A balanced approach, integrating both general education and major-specific courses throughout your studies, is essential for success in this accelerated path.

Consult with a transfer advisor as early as possible to learn about the transfer process and ensure you can meet your degree completion goals.

Q. What languages does the department use in courses?
A.
The department offers preliminary coursework in Python and C++. Students should expect to do most of their upper-division work in C++ but may also see Python, JavaScript, Java, and C#, among others. Students who recognize common program structures should be able to adapt to the specific language syntax.
