History shapes who you are as a person, community and world. Understanding history will help you analyze the past and provide a broader perspective of the future.

As a History student, you will gain strong critical thinking skills allowing you to strategically solve a problem and form a solid argument.

History is part of the Department of Humanities at St. Cloud State University, along with English, Languages and Cultures, and Philosophy. The Department unites fields committed to interpreting the human experience and fostering critical thought, cultural awareness, and social responsibility.

In History, we study the complexity of human events and ideas, seeking to understand the forces that shape societies and individuals. Our work in the humanities deepens civic understanding, enhances analytical reasoning, and connects the past to the challenges of the present.

Students can choose from a History B.A. or minor to enhance another SCSU major.
