Institutional change at St. Cloud State University
St. Cloud State University's ecosystem to guide antiracist activities
This graphic represents St. Cloud State University's ecosystem to guide antiracist activities. Antiracism is at the center of four concentric circles. The first, inner-most concentric circle describes the people at SCSU. Moving outward, the second concentric circle describes the roles that these people play in the institution. The third concentric circle describes antiracism goals, and the fourth, outer-most concentric circle, describes how the institution can achieve those antiracism goals.
Students
Students are in the classroom, involved in other activities on campus, such as student organizations. Examples of antiracism goals for students include transforming SCSU into a student-ready institution, increasing the number of BIPOC and other marginalized students, eliminating students’ educational equity gaps, and fostering empowered and socially responsible students. To achieve these antiracism goals, initiatives such as Equity by Design and the Racial Issues Graduation Requirement can support that process.
Faculty
Faculty are involved in teaching, curriculum, and scholarship. Examples of antiracism goals for faculty and their work include increasing the number of BIPOC and other marginalized faculty and faculty who are committed to antiracism, who can implement liberatory pedagogy, and who work on liberatory scholarship. To achieve these antiracism goals, SCSU can recruit and retain BIPOC and other marginalized faculty who are committed to antiracism. Initiatives such as Antiracist Pedagogy Across the Curriculum and Equity by Design can help eliminate students’ educational equity gaps and support faculty who want to incorporate antiracist pedagogy in their courses.
Administrators
Administrators manage and implement policies and structures. Examples of antiracism goals for administrators include increasing the number of BIPOC and other marginalized administrators and administrators committed to antiracism; and implementing antiracist policies, structures, metrics, decision-making, and investments. To achieve these antiracism goals, initiatives such as It’s Time and developing antiracism professional development opportunities for administrators can support that process.
Staff
Staff hold positions in various offices, student services and identity centers. Examples of antiracism goals for staff include increasing the number of BIPOC and other marginalized staff and staff who are committed to antiracism and implementing antiracist values in student interactions and policies. To achieve these antiracism goals, developing antiracism professional development for staff and initiatives such as It’s Time and Equity 2030 can provide support.

Institutional change beyond St. Cloud State University
The reverberating impact of the Antiracism Institute for Teaching and Research beyond St. Cloud State University
Antiracism work, supported by the Antiracism Institute for Teaching and Research, will have a reverberating effect. This visual shows an arrow pointing outward from the Antiracism Institute and the reverberating waves of antiracism starting with impact on teaching/scholarship/professional development/student growth, to the department, college, institution, community/discipline, higher education, and finally broader society.
