ASBMB Student Degree Certification
On March 16th, 2022, six Biochemistry and Molecular Biology students completed the 2022 American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) Certification exam. This national exam is a one-time opportunity taken by BMB students that are near graduation, and overall 1,052 students took part. This year five (out of six) SCSU students met the threshold for degree certification based on the exam results. Houa Yang (BMB-Biochemistry), Brooke Paulson (BMB-Biochemistry), and Ian Todd (BMB-Biochemistry) earned certification from ASBMB while Nickolas Hoopingarner (BMB-Biotechnology) and Jharef Tecsihua Tamariz (BMB-Biotechnology) achieved the highest honor of certification with distinction. As a result, these five students will receive a digital credentialing document for their certification and one-year free student membership to the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. 83.3% of the SCSU students that took the exam earned certification in general and 33.3% were certified with distinction, well above the national average of 42.8% of the students certified by ASBMB and 11.6% achieving certification with distinction. Congrats BMB students!
