The College of Education and Learning Design traces its roots back to the very first days of St. Cloud State University. The first brochure of the “Third State Normal School” (the very first name of what is now SCSU) cited an “urgent need [for] well-educated teachers” and asked the public to send “some of the best available material in your respective neighborhoods, and we will do our utmost to send you back, in due time, live teachers, fitted for the work to be done.”
That was in 1869. Obviously, we have grown tremendously since then, but we still keep in College of Education and Learning Design the main goal of returning teachers “fitted for the work to be done” to our communities today.
It is an honor to serve as interim dean of the “original college” of SCSU after 39 years in service to other parts of campus. I look forward to meeting and helping you become the teachers and educators of tomorrow.
