Broaden Confidence in Medical Device Products Safety and Efficacy

The demand for professionals with advanced Quality Science competencies and skills is increasing as medical technology increases in complexity. MedTech companies are in search of talent with strong regulatory and quality critical thinking skills in all cross-functional areas of the business while navigating the complexity of technology and regulations.

As a MTQ graduate student, you will acquire and apply scientific quality competencies and skills to become a leader who enhances your company's innovation capabilities and ensures accuracy from the start to advance product to patients relying on lifesaving and life-improving products. Some areas of focus in the curriculum start with the global business responsibility to a product over the lifecycle of the device and then delves into decision making impact learners have in the business process, quality system, and meeting the needs of patients being served.

Medical Technology Quality is a STEM-recognized program for Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Program Options

Designed by industry experts, the program provides extensive knowledge and skills in a convenient setting at St. Cloud State at Plymouth. All courses are taught by faculty who are leaders in quality with extensive practical experience working for medical device and diagnostic companies.

The Medical Technology Quality program offers graduate education with options for capstone (in person or online synchronous) or internship/portfolio (in person or online synchronous) master's programs as well as a graduate certificate withe specific sets of courses that support supplier quality, design assurance, or operations.

Both the internship/portfolio and capstone tracks both lead to graduation.

Internship/Portfolio Track

Students on this track can complete the program  in as little as two years and meet the requirement to build a portfolio of experience (ie via an industry internship, co-op, or contract). To maintain full-time status, a student must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits in their first semester as well as subsequent fall and spring terms.

The internship/portfolio track encourages students to apply what they have learned in coursework (even on day one) through goals setting and coaching by quality instructors in a variety of medical device engineering projects.

Capstone Track

Professionals on this track have daytime obligations and pursue this degree for professional development purposes. Courses are offered on Saturday mornings and weekday evenings outside of traditional business hours.

The program's culminating project is completed with their employer. Students apply what they have learned in their course work to advance their leadership and mastery of core engineering, scientific, quality principles to product, process, and systems quality initiatives.
