June 2018 Saint Cloud Weather Summary

While June 2018 did not have the record heat wave seen in late May, the average temperature remained well above average. The June average temperature at the St. Cloud Regional Airport was 68.8°F, 3.2°F above average and was the third warmest June in the past 30 years. High temperatures were not always extreme, although the 97 degree high on June 29 beat the 96 degrees set on May 28 for the warmest day of the year. It was also the hottest day seen in St. Cloud since the temperature last broke 100 degrees on June 7, 2011. However, the persistent high humidity was the key to the warm June. The average low temperature was 58.6 degrees, the 8th warmest average June low in St. Cloud records. Since 1972, only the average June low of 2006 (58.8 degrees) has been warmer. The high humidity culminated in the low temperature the last 2 days of the month never dropping below 70 degrees.

The combination of May and June produced an average temperature of 66.0 degrees, the 5th warmest combined May and June in St. Cloud records. This was the hottest May June combination since 1988.

The St. Cloud June rainfall appeared to be well below average with a total of 2.57 inches, 1.60 inches below average. However, only eastern Stearns County, northern Wright County and areas to the east of the Mississippi in Benton, Sherburne, and southern Mille Lacs Counties had under 4 inches of rain (see Minnesota June Rainfall from NWS). Areas further to the south and west had over 5 inches of rain with regions from the Minnesota River Valley into south central and southwestern Minnesota seeing over 10 inches of rain.
