The Minnesota Institute of Technology
Introducing TMIT@SCSU
The first of its kind in the State of Minnesota, The Minnesota Institute of Technology at St. Cloud State University (TMIT@SCSU) brings together a broad range of disciplines in state-of-the-art facilities to solve real world challenges. St. Cloud State University (SCSU) proudly offers a long history of collaborations between industry and academic partners, with faculty and students to support projects with real outcomes through its Integrated Science and Engineering Lab Facility (ISELF). TMIT@SCSU expands our vision and broadens the impact of faculty and student research with new partnerships, the use of labs and facilities campus wide, and the inclusion of disciplines across all university colleges and schools.
We recognize that to fully benefit from the applications of technology in problem solving, it needs to be deeply embedded across all disciplines. Through extensive partnerships with industry, education, health care, government, and non-profit organizations, TMIT@SCSU will develop and apply emerging technologies in an interdisciplinary approach to solve real world problems. There is simply no better way to prepare SCSU Huskies to become leaders and professionals of tomorrow.
Students
Learning in state-of-the-art facilities campus wide, students prepare for successful careers through doing real work in research and technological developments. Expanding the professional network of students, this unique learning opportunity introduces students to industry partners to design projects that meet an immediate need. Not only do Huskies make a difference, but such exposure often leads to a new professional network and potential opportunities for internships and full-time employment. As a result of bringing faculty, students, and industry partners together, students have, for example, used 3D imagery to assist in a patient diagnosis, designed sensors to detect air quality levels in large facilities, scaled up algae production to reduce the carbon footprint of industries worldwide, examined production line equipment to increase productivity. Reaching across all disciplines, the possibilities are endless.
Faculty
St. Cloud State is leading the way with faculty who are exceptional teacher-scholars. We know that that the best teaching and learning moments are ones where a faculty member is able to infuse their research into instruction. Taking this further, and through TMIT@SCSU, faculty work with industry partners to design research projects that are connected to a real-world setting to problem solve, improve, or change conditions. Our staff and campus leaders cultivate these industry relationships that are so vital to this form of teaching and learning. We provide the support and industry connections to support faculty in creating these new learning opportunities and results with and for our partners.
Industry and Academic Partners
We offer our partners access to our highly qualified faculty, staff and a talent pool of our students as they blossom as makers, thinkers, and doers. Our partners have immediate access to students of the highest caliber for internships, projects, and future employment. Building on an extensive network of industry and academic partnerships, TMIT@SCSU offers even more opportunities to design projects that include disciplines in public affairs, the social sciences, the arts, education, healthcare, business and more. We invite leaders working in education, public and private sectors, and nonprofits to engage with us to explore what we bring to the partnership, identify areas of need, and align faculty, students and our resources to create solutions.
